Why This Site Exists

When your basement floods or you spot mold behind a wall, most search results lead to the marketing pages of restoration companies — pages designed to get you to call, not to actually inform you. ClearHome Guides exists to be the resource we wished existed: plain-English, independently written guidance on cleanup, costs, prevention, and insurance, reviewed by people who actually do this work.

We are not a restoration company, we do not perform remediation work, and we do not sell leads to contractors based on your reading behavior.

How We Choose What to Cover

Our content roadmap is based on the real questions homeowners search for and ask — not on which topics are most profitable to rank for. We prioritize:

  • Situations that are urgent or high-stakes (active leaks, mold health concerns, storm flooding).
  • Decisions with real financial consequences (repair costs, insurance claims, hiring a contractor).
  • Prevention topics that save homeowners money and stress before a problem starts.

Our Editorial Review Process

  1. Research. Articles are drafted using current industry standards (e.g. IICRC guidelines), manufacturer documentation, insurance industry data, and, where relevant, EPA and CDC guidance on mold and indoor air quality.
  2. Expert review. Where noted, articles are reviewed by a credentialed professional — such as a certified mold inspector or IICRC-certified restoration technician — before publishing. Reviewer credentials are listed on the article and on the author's profile.
  3. Fact and cost checking. Cost figures are checked against multiple current sources and labeled as ranges, since real pricing varies significantly by region, severity, and contractor.
  4. Ongoing updates. Articles are revisited periodically and updated when guidance, pricing, or regulations change. Every article shows its last-updated date.

How We Make Money — Advertising Disclosure

Running independent research and paying reviewers isn't free, so this Site is supported in part by affiliate links and, in some cases, advertising. Specifically:

  • Some links to products (dehumidifiers, moisture meters, sump pumps, etc.) may be affiliate links. If you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
  • We do not accept payment in exchange for a specific ranking, recommendation, or favorable review. No company can pay to be listed as a "best" or "top" option.
  • Where an article discusses or recommends a specific brand or contractor type, that inclusion is an editorial decision, not a paid placement, unless explicitly labeled "Sponsored."

Full details are also available in our Privacy Policy.

What We're Not

To be clear about the limits of this Site:

  • We are not a licensed contractor, mold inspector, engineer, insurance agent, or law firm, and nothing here is professional advice specific to your property.
  • We do not perform inspections, testing, or remediation, and we do not guarantee outcomes based on following our guides.
  • In an emergency — active flooding, structural risk, or a suspected health hazard — contact a licensed local professional or emergency services directly rather than relying on this Site.
